Epicurean Market 2017, Part 2

For the final part of the Epicurean Market cover, I will be going through the Farmer's Market as well as other activities that I attended during the three day event.

Every year, by the entrance of the event, the Farmer's Market is the first thing everyone walks into during their visit. With over 35 different vendors this year, the selection of vegetables, meat, cheese, seafood, lots of alcohol and many more are available for sale at an affordable price.

Indoguna

Take this huge booth for example; Indoguna is a well known supplier of meats in the F&B industry. But this booth isn't your typical butcher at Cold Storage or Fairprice Finest. They've got an array of meats from Kurobuta, Wagyu beef, cured ham, and more. You'll get to sample the cold cuts before you decide to buy anything of course.
I had purchased from them, a stick of Milano Salami for SGD $15, along with a whole cut of Kurobuta Pork Tomahawk for SGD $28

They also have a booth that sells various types of cheese. Named, "The Cheese Artisans", a booth catering to all the cheese lovers will be in for a treat, as this booth also allows free samplings before you decide to buy anything from them as well.

Cheese Artisans

I had gotten myself a 200g wedge of Truffle Gouda for SGD $22. The picture below has information for people who are interested in buying some of their cheese online as well. Do keep in mind, there is a delivery charge as well, so the overall price may not be as cheap! Additionally, if you do purchase some cheese from them, keep the receipt and visit them at their store at Greenwood Avenue to get a glass of wine (or some more cheese). HOWEVER. They failed to mention to me that it's only with a minimum spending of SGD $35, so they kinda lost some points in my book.

If you can't quite see, I'll leave a link to their website here

Speaking of cheese, there's a very unique booth which goes by the name of "Black Cow". Where they have their own brand of vodka, which is made from milk instead of potatoes. Yes, you read that right, vodka made from milk. and the very same milk from their cows are used to make their own brand of cheddar cheese. Which can be purchased for SGD $23 for a Block!

For people who love oysters, there's good news, and there's bad news.
Good news is, there is a booth under Taylor Shellfish Farms & Global Oceanlink with some really good selection of oysters!

The bad news is they no longer serve them raw in the event. According to the staff, someone ordered and ate from their booth last year and got "food poisoning" (with a big emphasis on quote and unquote there), and now they can not serve raw oysters. Instead they grill them for you now, which is not too bad for some, but I like them fresh and raw. I mean, I had them for the last 2 years and I still walked away okay and happy. But I understand it's better to be safe than sorry.

For people who are keen on some good beef. How about some Canadian beef eh? You'll get to enjoy a taste of Canada when you pay their booth a visit. Either you request for them to grill their options of beef for you, or you can choose to buy home some of what they have.

They've got some good Triple A Canadian Ribeye Steak. 250g for SGD $17.50!

People who enjoy Meiji milk or Yogurt  will be glad to know that they are also setting up a booth there every year, selling their stuff at a cheaper price!

Nescafe Frappelatte (SGD $3 each)

Since I'm not as big of an alcoholic as the rest of my family, I did not purchase, or sample much wine or any other spirits at the event. So I'm just going to leave you with some pictures of a few, among many of their alcohol booths to tempt you people into going next year here.

** OTHER HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EVENT**

You can also attend master classes on cooking, where you get to learn and sample dishes from master chefs, for free! There are also wine pairing and appreciation classes which you'll have to pay for to attend as well.

French cooking Master Class with Chefs, Olivier Muller, Jonathan Kinsella and, Mandy Pan of DB Bistro

There's also an annual cook-off between two chefs belonging to the restaurants under the Marina Bay Sands. This year's cook-off was between DB Bistro's Chef Jonathan "The exaggerator" Kinsella and Breadstreet Kitchen's Chef Sabrina "the silent warrior" Stillhart.

The cook-off was an hour in duration where both participants were given a "mystery box" where their ingredients were selected unbeknownst to them both. The match was very entertaining with lots of laughs, and exciting, as watching both professional chefs duke it out in an epic battle of culinary knowledge and skill, put me on the edge of my seat.

The victor of the cook-off went to Chef Jonathan Kinsella yet again. That makes it 4 years in a row now...

Lastly, there's the annual door gift, which you can redeem at a counter within the event halls. This year was 4 bottles of coke and a small bottle of Avocado Oil from Acado Pure Avocado oil from Avocado Global Pte Ltd. (They also have their own booth in the event)

Thank you for reading! I hope you've found the second part of my blog-post on Epicurean Market 2017 helpful or interesting. Until the next blog post, cheers!
